Eat Like Inca Royalty
If you’re going to follow the path of Inca royalty to Machu Picchu, why not eat like an Inca King as well? While there are no shortage of unique Peru culinary experiences, there is no dining experience in Cusco or the Sacred Valley that can rival the luxury picnic lunch at Huaypo Lake for setting.
To get to Huaypo Lake, you veer off the main highway from Cusco to Urubamba in the village of Chinchero (famous for the CTTC). You then follow a long dirt road into the countryside, winding your way through small indigenous villages and potato farms until you reach the shores of Huaypo Lake.
Picnic Lunch at Huaypo Lake
Upon arrival at Huaypo Lake, a “picnic lunch” has been setup beforehand. This isn’t your ordinary “picnic” by any means. Instead, there is a luxury glamping feel, perhaps akin to an experience you would have on a super high-end African safari.
For beverage, you may choose indulge in a glass of Peruvian wine, or perhaps enjoy a glass of sparkling champagne if you prefer. The meal is fully catered by Tammy and the expert chefs at Cicciolina Restaurant, regarded by many as one of the finest restaurants in Cusco.
Unlike the lunch at Huayocarri Hacienda and the Peruvian Barbecue at Wayra Ranch, the private picnic lunch at Huaypo Lake is only available on select Small Group Tours such as Inca Trail to Machu Picchu and Machu Picchu and Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley. That said, the experience is without a doubt highly exclusive and the majority of our guests describe it as their favorite meal in Peru.
